Why Qualifications & APC Matter for Your Child:

In the UK, the title ‘specialist dyslexia teacher’ is not legally protected, so anyone can use it. To protect families, formal standards exist:

• Qualification Levels (1–7): Levels 2–4 build general awareness. Level 5 qualifies specialist tutors. Level 7 (My Level) is the highest academic tier, qualifying a practitioner to conduct full diagnostic assessments.

• What is an APC? Holding an Assessment Practising Certificate (APC) is the gold standard for assessors. It proves that an assessor’s work is regularly peer-reviewed and guaranteed to meet strict SASC guidelines. Schools, exam boards, and universities require an APC-backed report for formal adjustments like Exam Access Arrangements and DSA.
